Alongside pizzas, this week we have Bowen Zhao
Bowen will talk about: Exploring neural control structure from surface EMG through time–frequency analysis
Bowen Zhao is a fourth-year PhD student in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Leeds, supervised by Dr. Samit Chakrabarty and Prof. Ronaldo M. Ichiyama. His doctoral research investigates how neural control signals are transformed through the neuromuscular system and how their structured timing and frequency features may appear in surface electromyography recordings. His work aims to improve our understanding of how surface EMG reflects neural control during movement, with broader relevance to motor neuroscience, rehabilitation, and human movement analysis. Bowen completed his undergraduate degree in Rehabilitation at Shandong First Medical University in China before completing a master's degree in Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation at the University of Leeds, prior to joining the University of Leeds for his PhD.
