Marine Krzisch: “Investigating microglial dysfunction in neurological disease using human pluripotent stem cells in vitro and in vivo”

Marine is a Lecturer in Neuroscience with an interest in neurological disease modelling. Her current focus is the role of microglia in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s, and neurodevelopmental diseases such as Fragile X syndrome. She uses 2D and 3D cultures and the transplantation of human microglia in the mouse brain to investigate the disease-specific alterations of these cells and their consequences on neuronal function and development.

Becca Motley: “Characterisation of a novel R428Q knock-in mouse model for K_Na1.1 associated epilepsies”

Rebecca is a second year PhD student in the labs of Dr Jamie Johnston, Dr Steven Clapcote and Dr Jonathan Lippiat researching the efficacy of potassium channel inhibitors for the treatment of KCNT1-associated epilepsies, using a novel in vivo model of disease. Her research to present has involved extensive characterisation of the model to establish clinical translatability. Rebecca began her PhD after completing an undergraduate degree with first class honours in Medical Biochemistry and a Master’s degree in Cancer biology and therapy at the University of Leeds.
